Our Touching Senses program takes you on a journey through Bali, leaving you with long lasting memories of our extraordinary resort and island. The Aksara script is a descendant of the Indic Brahmic scripts, and so has many similarities with other modern scripts throughout Southeast Asia. The Balinese script is considered the most elaborate and ornate among Brahmic scripts of Southeast Asia and is natively known Hanacaraka. Try writing your name in Aksara Bali from a master while enjoying Indonesian afternoon tea highlighting traditional Balinese sweets.

Villa Laburnum
As you enter your private villa through the hand carved wooden Balinese door you’re immediately met by a wall. What for, you may wonder? This authentic Balinese entry is called “aling-aling”. The Balinese believe that all spirits (good and bad) can only travel in straight lines, so this foyer created by the “aling-aling” maximises your privacy, even from the spirits! A step to the left and you are met by your outdoor living space with a raised dining pavilion and high courtyard walls for ultimate privacy. Tropical flowers compliment the 200 square metre enclosure with a central, generously sized private swimming pool, shaded by Frangipani trees.
The villa, thatched with an authentic “alang-alang” roof, features a king size elevated four poster bed, marble floors throughout, and a classic tropical interior décor recreating the timeless beauty of magical Bali. Floor length glass doors open on the opposite side with sweeping views over the bucolic gardens leading to the Indian Ocean. A generous bathroom with a sunken marble tub, double vanities, ample closet space and a separate shower, is naturally illuminated from the sunlit courtyard and a goldfish pond adds to the glamour. Nature Walk
The bucolic seaside landscaped gardens at The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali are home to 15 acres of tropical plants and ancient trees. Some species are almost a hundred years old, rare and endangered. Every Wednesday, we lead a guided relaxing stroll through our mature seaside gardens.
A senior team member leads the tour and imparts local wisdom on various plant varieties and their functionality, spirituality and / or health benefits. (Balinese believe spirits can live in some species of trees). Afterwards, guest will be escorted to enjoy refreshing complimentary Indonesian afternoon tea highlighting traditional Balinese sweets.

Taste of Indonesian Cuisine at The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali
The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali’s chef – Enrico Wahl introduces one of the famous Indonesian authentic dishes – Pork Cheek Rendang.
Rendang originates from Minangkabau region in West Sumatra, Indonesia. The term “Rendang” does not refer to a dish or a class of dishes. Rather, it describes a method of slow cooking meat until the cooking liquid and juices have evaporated and what remains in the pot of meat is a concentration of flavors. In West Sumatra, people use beef as the meat for Rendang. Here at The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali, our chef has twisted the flavor of Rendang with a Bali original spice known as ‘Bumbu Merah’ and uses Pork Cheek instead that further enriches the taste of this dish.
This special Pork Cheek Rendang has become one of most favorite Indonesian dishes at our Kura Kura Restaurant and is best served with steamed rice accompanied with stir fried vegetables. Let this dish be part of your culinary adventure while dining at The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali.
